Victory Acres INDY CSA FAQ | Victory Acres INDY CSA FORM
Victory Acres originated on a 114-acre family farm near Upland, IN. Victory Acres INDY Urban Farm is a continuation of that tradition with a new twist bringing the best of the country to the big city! Three years ago at Victory Acres, we started with Community Supported Agriculture (CSA), as a way to keep a working farm working. Inviting neighbors, friends and complete strangers to share in the risks and rewards of the farm was one of the best things that we ever did. We have since expanded our scope of growing things, but all along the way, we have succeeded by keeping it simple. All foods are certified naturally grown, raised the way that God intended. (While not certified organic, our produce is naturally grown, raised following organic standards.)
We will be growing your vegetables in a creative variety of locations. From raised beds on empty inner city lots to suburban acreage made available by willing church partners, the ground will be tested, properly prepared, and fruitful. We will plant different varieties in different places to maximize productivity and minimize the damage due to vandalism.
Marcos Garcia has worked with Victory Acres in Upland, IN for the past three growing seasons. With his rich, agricultural background from sunny Guatemala and his long time involvement with VICM, Marcos brings much experience and character to this position. While he will be our "urban farmer," he will not be doing it alone. He will be supported by our knowledgeable CSA Manager at Victory Acres in Upland. He will be joined by a host of volunteers, youth, and "working share" community members who will participate with him in bringing in the harvest.
While this is our fourth growing season as an organization in administering a CSA, this is our first season to operate an urban farm CSA in Indianapolis, and there are sure to be adjustments as we learn. For that reason, we are starting small. We will only be offering forty shares this first year. We have plans to expand in the future, but members this year will receive priority treatment next year. Membership may be reserved by a payment of at least 25%. Payment in full is due by May 2009 (unless other payment arrangements have been made.) First come, first served. When membership is full, we will begin a waiting list for the 2010 growing season.
While volunteers and workers at Victory Inner-city Ministries will do the majority of the work, we could also use your help. Find out how and where your food is grown. Contact our office to find out how you can participate.
The harvest of produce will be divided between the members on a weekly basis. Your produce will be delivered weekly to Victory Village Shoppe at 3229 E. 10th St. on the neareast side of Indianapolis.
The mission of Victory Acres is to provide good work and good food to all who join us. We envision the farm being a safe place where people can experience farm life, appreciate God's creation, participate in good work, enjoy good food that they have helped to produce, and as a result, draw closer to God and live healthier, happier lives.
Victory Acres INDY is a win-win. Not only will you be receiving quality produce, but you will also be supporting a great cause. Supporting local food production, encouraging sustainable community development, helping people to help themselves, teaching children and youth about growing things, and providing access to quality, naturally grown foods to our urban neighborhood are just a small part of the important work that your CSA dollars will make possible.
