Contemporary Approaches to Urban Ministry
College credit available through God's Bible School and College
This hands-on course blends participation in ministry with classroom instruction.
The particular challenges and opportunities of the city for ministry will be examined.
Contemporary approaches to relief work, community development, and racial reconciliation
will be observed during a week-long block session. The class will examine approaches to
church outreach / evangelism and urban church planting. The student will move toward
constructing a biblical, personal, and contextual philosophy of ministry for the modern urban environment.
Scheduled August 3-10, 2008, in Indianapolis, Indiana.
Previous to scheduled session:
Assigned reading
Interviews and survey of familiar ministries
Summary of personal ministry experience, interests, and goals
Personal list of questions and issues to be explored during the session
During the scheduled session:
10 hours of class
4 hours of interaction with the professor
6 hours of joint ministry with an urban pastor
4 hours in visits and interviews with local ministries
12 hours of participation in congregational and small group ministry
After the scheduled session:
A personal ministry projection paper, incorporating what was learned from
all elements of the course and showing how it will shape the student's future ministry.
